Checklist

I am proud of myself as I accomplished two major things on my getting ready checklist.
  1. Call potential babysitter for summer months to confirm availability. Check.
  2. Pick a pediatrician and call their office and ask how to handle her two week appointment. Check.

So I am done now with getting ready...I wish! I will now publish my list for all to see so I will feel the pressure to get it done.

  1. Rearrange master bedroom for a more convenient set up for the cradle and night time feedings.
  2. Organize garage so we can junk it up again with the contents of the SPARE BEDROOM (insert scary music here).
  3. Empty spare room contents into garage.
  4. Build shelves under bar to make livingroom more inviting (What? You don't think that is important for a baby?? Ok fine so that is for me, just don't tell Adam).
  5. Have a work day when I get the entire house clean and keep it that way so we can leave at any moment.
  6. Keep laundry current for same reason as #4.
  7. Pack the baby's stuff - this will be the fun part but I haven't done it yet because I still like to look at all the stuff.
  8. Have dog groomed.
  9. Make bows for bumper - I am adding bows made with the fabric of the crib skirt.

Now this list is just a starting point so I might not see anyone until February- Hahaha.

A Letter, A Picture

I think I forgot to say in my previous post that Katie was going to send a letter to us and a picture of herself. I have tried to send her a note every couple of weeks but I never knew what to say in them. I didn't want to act overly excited because that might make her feel bad but then I felt like I should show some excitement. Now that I have her letter I feel more comfortable with letter content. She sent a four page letter which we received on Christmas Eve. It was a very nice surprise. She sent a picture and she looks exactly like she sounds on the phone. She is very pretty. We are sending her pictures of the nursery and pictures of some of the baby things we got for Christmas. I just discovered Walgreens online. You get the prints for 19 cents just like Walmart (I think it is 29 if you do it in the store) but you can pick them up at Walgreens. No more waiting in line for the machine and then waiting in another line to pick them up. C-o-o-l.

Alas! News!

Well it is certainly Christmas time. It wouldn't be Christmas if I didn't have to go to three different grocery stores to find all I needed. More importantly it wouldn't be Christmas without a surprise gift...a phone call from the agency.

Wheeling through my second grocery store I realized that I had missed a call on my cell phone (not a surprise-I never hear it). Emily? Who is Emily? Listening to my message I realized it was the agency. Panic sets in. The message appropriately starts with "everything is going fine". Sigh of relief. The call was to see if we can do a conference call with Katie to get a few doctor updates. Yes of course we can.

To sum it up we got to talk to her for 45 mintues covering tons of topics. Doctor's visits, pets, family, shopping. You name it we seemed to cover it. Throughout the conversation she kept asking if we were going to come for the birth. About halfway through she said. I want you to be in the room with me if you want too. It finally occurred to me why she was asking so often if we were going to be there. I was having trouble coming up with different ways to say "yes, we are". With bells on, definately, of course, we are a phone call away, we will come early so we are there.

The doctor thinks the baby will be early so this presents a challenge to this request. She is going to call us after every appointment from now on so we will be able to judge when we should go. She talked about school and how she carries our profile around in her backpack and when people ask if she knows the adoptive parents she says "Yes, I do. Here they are". She even did a school project on adoption and passed us around for the class to see. I wonder if we got an A? She and her friends talk about us all the time. Sweet. Her little sister talks to the baby and says "Adam and Jessica are going to take you to Disney World". Note to self: get tickets now.

Getting a phone call was a great surprise. I am getting really excited now!!!

Preparing for the trip

Over Thanksgiving I reserved our hotel room. We are getting a suite that will have two bedrooms/baths a full kitchen and a living area with a pull out couch. So far, my mom and AD's mom will be coming with us. I guess we are going to have to rent a car so we can get around the Sandy/SLC area. This causes great concern for me because I still don't think I am old enough to rent a car and drive in a strange city - and not to mention pick up a baby and take it home.

I think our hotel is near some things like an outlet mall and a Target - basic necessities in life - so I am happy about that. We haven't decided if we are going to do flexible dates tickets or just get a one-way ticket there and the same back. We still have no idea how long we will be there. I do know that it will be cold. I am waiting for the after Christmas sales so I can get some winter gear - sweaters, gloves, etc - I am still winging it with 3/4 length sleeves around here.

So I looked at the baby above and I am not sure that it has moved. I wish I had taken a picture of it before so I could know for sure. That little thing is taunting me. I have had all sorts of weird dreams lately. I will spare you because I know that other people's dreams are so boring. Well, I will tell you a little because you have a choice to read or not to read.

Dream #1 - My mother enrolled me in a very exclusive and expensive college and I was nervous about fitting in and I kept asking if she could get her money back because it wasn't worth the money.
Interpretation: I have had multiple conversations about babysitting/daycare and even gone as far as to worry about elementary and high school. Boy I have a long road ahead if I am already worried about that.

Dream #2 - I was demoted at work.
Interpretation: We are going through a survey this week and I am convinced that I will be fired by Wednesday. I had the worst day of my entire work life last Thursday. I did everything wrong. If I produced a piece of work...it was a complete failure. To sum it up...think "getting an email from the CEO of your company when he typically doesn't send emails to you".

Hello, again

It has been a little while since I posted. No news. I read somewhere in our agency paperwork that we will hear from them about once a month until the baby is born unless there is a specific reason to call. I have tried to send Katie a card every couple of weeks. We are getting closer to the due date. I hear that the ticker baby above looks as if it has moved. I haven't checked it out yet.

Knittin' a mitten

Last night Sabra gave me a pattern for easy mittens because I was getting discouraged with the hat. I needed something small to increase my confidence. I did successfully complete one mitten last night. I took it down to my mom's to borrow a needle to sew up the back and I was able to try it out on Junie and Lily Durham. It was way to big for Junie (+/- 3 months) and seemed to small for Lily (2). So I am guessing that it will be perfect for a 1 year old. So now I have to finish the other one but really what is the rush? I have a year! I am a little worried about doing the other mitten. I am dreaming if I think that the two will match in size. I will go ahead and finish because I am determined to get one full project done.
